Our blind auctions closed on Wednesday 16 December and the winners have been notified. The CDs and audiobook are now on their way to the USA and Canada, and we have raised around £1,600 for Newham charities and local food banks.
As you may have read, analysis commissioned by the End Child Poverty campaign has shown that Newham has the second highest proportion of children living in poverty in the UK, at 50.3%, just below Tower Hamlets at 55.4%. For more details, visit their website.
Following our earlier auctions for signed CDs and audiobooks from Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour and novelist Polly Samson, and our blind auction for signed copies of Elton John’s autobiography Me, we had three more blind auctions (secret bids) for signed CDs and an audiobook generously donated by David Gilmour and Polly Samson from their personal collection. As before, we have made the proceeds of these auctions available to local food banks and use them to provide children’s books for other local charities in Newham.
